The Waterbury Farrel Linking Machine packs ammunition cartridges into belts. Links are loaded into pockets on the turret, then a single cartridge is pushed into each link, and the links are joined into a continuous belt. Completed cartridge belts are carried to an outfeed chute.

The Waterbury Farrel Clipping Machine packs ammunition cartridges into clips. Clips are loaded into nest blocks on the Index Dial, then a specific number of cartridges are pushed into each clip, and clip tabs are bent up to retain the cartridges. Completed cartridge clips are pushed down an outfeed chute.
